Smile for the Birdie!

More and more couples are taking engagement photos. It used to be you only took this pictures in a studio, under hot lights and against a standard backdrop: very formal and very traditional. Well, as etiquette conscience as I am, when it came to these photos (as well as other aspects of the wedding) I wanted to infuse our personalities into them. I wanted them to reflex who we are as a couple, so studio photos weren’t even an option!

On July 16th, after getting all “beautified” at Bruno’s Salon and Spa with amazing natural makeup by Jovi and a 1940s, classic Hollywood glamorous hair style by Greg; Tom picked me up. We drove down Shore Road to John Paul Jones Park (aka Cannonball Park to us Brooklynites) where we met our wedding photographer, Sam from Duet. For those of you who watch NBC’s “Heroes”, Sam reassembles Hiro! =)

We were a little uncomfortable at first, but Sam was amazingly personable and so easy to work with. He put Tom and I at ease and we had a blast, in spite of the wicked heat. After taking a bunch of pictures in the park we moseyed over to the promenade and took a ton of images with the Verrazano Bridge in the background. Finally, we added a little more of “us” into them with a handful of photos in our NY Mets jerseys.

We can’t wait to see the final photos, which we should get any day now. We’ll be incorporating our favorites in a few areas of the wedding, but you’ll just have to wait and see where!

After the shoot we picked up Natalie & Chris and headed to the Billy Joel concert at Shea, thanks to Marisa’s generosity. We met up with Dave and had an amazing night.
