I already made our monogram for other wedding items so I just opened the original Photoshop file; blew it up and printed it on number sheets of paper. From there I played a puzzle and taped the entire monogram together for a template.
Tom and I bought a "buttercup" aisle runner from nowandforever.com. I have a strict "no white" policy for the wedding. (Let's face it - that ship has sailed) so I needed to find a runner that matched our color scheme and this worked perfectly. Again, on a Michael's run we bought brown and gold fabric paint and assorted brushes.
Today I decided it was time to tackle this DIY.
First, I taped the monogram template onto our kitchen table. I laid the open aisle runner over it at a point where I'd like the monogram (approx. 12 feet from the top.)
Next, I traced the entire monogram with a pencil. (It's light but you can see it.)
Finally, it was ready to be painted. I removed the monogram template and taped saran wrap on the table to protect it in case the pain seeped through. I started with the gold "&" symbol finished with the brown.
It took me exactly 7 hours from start to finish. It was a labor of love. I also added a quote to it. That took a little longer!
